about

Padmala.

Padma – “lotus” in sanskrit.
Mala – a tool to keep your mind focused in meditation.

The lotus is revered across many cultures for its ability to be born of mud yet achieve perfect beauty as it rises above the waters. For many, it symbolizes the potential of the human soul to triumph over the muck of material existence and reach enlightenment. To me, it is a potent reminder that no matter how many times I stumble, there is always another chance.

Padmala is my second chance, the outgrowth of a very beloved business I had for a few years. I created Lotuspad eco yoga mats when my daughter was an infant as a way to provide parents like me with safe, non-toxic yoga mats for their children. It grew to be much more than that, but for a variety of reasons, I decided not to continue with the business.

I began making jewelry in the summer of 2009 to complement my boutique yoga mats, and because I could not find the right pieces that were inspirational and meaningful to me. I love the color and texture of gemstone beads, as well as the lore associated with the stones.

I hope you enjoy them too!

If my site seems a little less than perfect, that is because I do it all myself – from making the jewelry to photographing, posting and programming the site. Often this is done at 5am or in the company of my 5 year old daughter.  Any feedback on the site or the jewelry is very welcome.

One new piece added [almost] every day. Sometimes more than one. Most are one-of-a-kind.
